This is about the only thing I've done. It is a good day to be lazy. It is raining. I went down today at nine o'clock to look for a hat. I first went in [Is]abell's (1) but they didn't have a thing. All old womanish. So then I got one at the Leader (2). Finally, after trying on about 5. It's awful hard to buy something by yourself. Especially a hat. It is kind of luggage tan with light blue figured brand in the regular shape. But I think it's cute. It was $1.88. It will go nice with my shoes and purse. June 23rd, 1941 Sunday Night Honey Dear, We've been so over come with Phyllis living here with us we could scarcely settle down to write but she sure arrived O.K. and she and I had to weep for joy. She saw Don soon cause she said he was way taller than anyone. About the time I spied her I'd scarcely known her. She looks browner than we do and looks like you took good care of her and she had enough to eat. Well it was certainly thrilling meeting her. The train was about 20 minutes late. I was afraid she might have come one the other one and somehow we'd missed her but we were in there twice for that one but it came in and went and we didn't see it but I think they called it out. We were at the gates and couldn't have missed her because the crowd wasn't that big....

April 16th, 1941 4/16/41 4 o'clock Dear Ma and Don; Just read you Tues letter. My, but service is quick. It has been very hot here. It was 86 on Monday. Aunt Mary, gram and B. and me were out in the county all day. It certainly was hot. Certainly glad I got that summer coat instead of a reversible.  I made pretty well in my literature test. Only a B but there was only one A in our room. Tomorrow we get our history exam. Last night I went to a roller skating party give by one of the junior class homerooms. It was at W.N. (1) I didn't think much of the place but we had a swell time. I was skating with a boy from Bethlehem. He was awful nice. his name was Eddy. He had graduated in 1936. He knew Chester Wooding.  I believe I have "piles" (2) and they are bothering me very much. I can hardy sit. Can you suggest anything? Your church service must have been very nice. Ours was lovely, too. Yes, Betty, Gram and Jean are staying all week. I must have them down for supper. Wagn...
